HARRY POTTER MOVIES
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
This is the first book and film in the very successful Harry Potter series. Harry has been living with his dreadful Step-parents the Dursleys for 11 years and he is dying to get out of the horrible life that they have forced him to endure. All this happens when a half-giant by the name of Rubeus Hagrid rescues and announces, to Harry's compelete disbelief, that Harry is a wizard, and that he has a place reserved for him at the world famous "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry". Harry and Hagrid set off for London to buy Harry's magical school supplies. Hagrid leads Harry through a grubby little pub known as the "Leaky Cauldron" and into a small courtyard. Hagrid pulls out a shabby pink umbrella (who we later discover to conceal his wand, which should have been snapped in two as he was expelled from Hogwarts) and taps on an apparently solid brick wall, which melts away to reveal a cobbled street, which Hagrid reveals to be called "Diagon Alley". it is packed with witches and wizards all buying magical school supplies. Hagrid gives us a brief tour showing Harry (and us) all the magical shops. We see a huge white marble building at the end of the street with the words "GRINGOTTS BANK" carved into the marble just above the polished bronze doors. Harry and Hagrid enter and we see rows upon rows of desks with goblins sat behind them, examining jewels and coins of all shapes, sizes and colours.
